What is the Code of Practice?

The Code of Practice aims to set minimum standards for NHS England (NHSE), employers and doctors, around the provision of information for postgraduate medical training. NHSE have committed to providing placement information to employers and doctors at least 12 weeks before a doctor is due to start in post.


12 Weeks 
NHS England have committed to providing placement information to employers and doctors at least 12 weeks before a doctor is due to start in post.
8 Weeks 
Employers have committed to providing work schedules to doctors at least 8 weeks before a doctor is due to start in post.
Within 8 Weeks of start of post
Employers to issue employment contract to doctors no later than 8 weeks after start of post (ideally on completion of pre-employment checks).
